Importancia de los receptores hormonales en el cáncer de mama

Resumen

El fundamento del diagnóstico del cáncer de mama es la confirmación histológica del mismo. Entre los métodos diagnósticos realizados sobre las piezas de biopsia y/o los especímenes quirúrgicos de las pacientes, el análisis de los receptores hormonales ofrece información para la prescripción correcta de los tratamientos endocrinos utilizados en la actualidad, además de tener utilidad como factor pronóstico, determinar el riesgo de recidiva, realizar el seguimiento post tratamiento y evaluar la respuesta al mismo. La obtención de muestras de tejido tumoral permiten determinar otros factores pronósticos y predictivos como la clasificación histopatológica del tumor, su tamaño, el número de ganglios linfáticos positivos y el compromiso linfovascular; todos ellos de importancia en el manejo integral, con el fín de mejorar la calidad y expectativa de vida de las pacientes.
