Abstract

The family Erpodiaceae belongs to the order Orthotrichales; their representatives are pleurocarpic plants of small to medium size (3-20 mm). According to the different treatments that have been done to the family, the number of genders varies from one to five. The elements of the family are widely distributed in very specific niches; they are found preferably in dry areas of tropical and subtropical regions around the world, in an altitudinal range that goes from sea level to 1700 m.o.s.l. In Neotropics, the family is represented by 12 species belonging to five genera; of them, 11 are in South America and two in Colombia. In this document, the description of the family, genera and species of the country and its distribution are presented; new records are also added.
