Note on the nesting of the Cattle Egret (Bubulcus ibis ibis, linnaeus) in the Popayan plain.
Abstract
Bubulcus Ibis Ibis Ibis is today the most common heron species in much of the Colombian territory despite having reached the American continent only a few decades ago.
The first records of the species in America date back to 1877 when SIR EVERAR IN THURN, noticed on the beach of the Courentyne River, Guyana, what he described as a different heron. The first publication was made by BLAKE, cited by Dugand, 1954, about a specimen collected east of Georgetown and later other specimens were captured by researchers of the Museum of British Guiana (Olivares, 1959).
