Body Stalk syndrome. Case report.

Keywords: Embryonic Development, Abdominal Wall, Ultrasonography Prenatal, Congenital Abnormalities

Abstract

Objective: Report a case of Body Stalk Syndrome in a pregnant woman with a history of psychoactive substance use and gestational syphilis.

Description: We present a case of Body Stalk syndrome diagnosed at 10 weeks' gestation on a first trimester ultrasound. The embryo presented multiple abnormalities characteristic of the syndrome, including abdominal wall defects and fetal dysmorphology. The Body Stalk syndrome is a rare congenital anomaly with poor prognosis.

Conclusions: Body Stalk syndrome is a severe birth defect which is incompatible with life. Prenatal ultrasonographic diagnosis contributes to defining obstetric management and decreases the risk of maternal morbidity.
