Insulinoma. From a Difficult Diagnosis to Complete Recovery. Case Report
Abstract
Objective: Insulinomas are tumors of very low incidence. However, it is considered the most common tumor cause of hypoglycemia. Their diagnosis can be difficult since they present with symptoms that can be related to multiple entities causing hypoglycemia such as the supply of exogenous insulin, drug consumption, among others. Therefore, clinical suspicion and paraclinical and imaging identification are required to achieve adequate and timely management. The objective of this article is to document and describe a case of insulinoma, from the difficulties in diagnosis, clinical prognosis, and therapeutic approach.
Case description: The case of a patient with a history of type 2 diabetes mellitus with the appearance of symptomatic hypoglycemia is presented. After the diagnostic process, an insulinoma was identified in a timely manner for subsequent surgical resection with complete improvement of the patient's symptoms.
Conclusion: The identification and timely diagnosis of insulinomas promote early intervention to improve the quality of life of patients and avoid possible complications.
