In cases of mild respiratory infections, should antibiotics be prescribed immediately, or is it advisable to wait for a specified period? Summary and analysis of a systematic review conducted by the Cochrane Collaboration
Abstract
This special article aims to summarize and discuss the latest systematic review conducted on the effect of delayed antibiotic prescribing on mild respiratory infections versus immediate prescribing or non-prescribing. This commentary is made in agreement with the Cochrane Colombia collaboration and within the framework of the Cochrane Corners strategy. This review is an update of previous systematic reviews from 2007, 2010, 2013, and 2017, in which clinical outcomes, complications, symptomatic improvement, and patient satisfaction are addressed as outcomes.
