Keywords: Editorial process, open journals, peer reviewers, Open Science, predatory journals, Article Processing Charges

Abstract

This article examines several facets of the editorial process that manuscripts must undergo when submitted to a specific journal. It underscores the pivotal role played by peer reviewers and editors in ensuring the robust generation of knowledge and the widespread dissemination of research findings. The discussion encompasses an exploration of the existing publication models, with a particular focus on the emergence of the Open Access movement. Additionally, it delves into the different publication routes and associated costs, commonly referred to as Article Processing Charges (APCs). Finally, the article sheds light on the distinctive features of predatory journals, which pose a significant threat to the effective dissemination of research.
