Colombian Health Care System and COVID-19 pandemic
Abstract
In mid-April 2021, in the newspaper El Tiempo de Bogotá, Juan Gossain, the wellknown journalist, interviewed Juan Carlos Giraldo, director of the Colombian Association of Clinics and Hospitals who, as he is known by broad health sectors, he complained about the large debts that the EPS (Health Insurance Companies) have with Colombian hospitals (1). Sporadically, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, news of strikes by professionals and health personnel from hospitals of all levels throughout the national geography appears in the media due to the lack of payment of their salaries. They complain of debts of several months. This kind of news in the country becomes, unfortunately for the collective memory, a common place, like what happens with the daily death of social leaders and various factors that have progressively accumulated until ending in the social, humanitarian and governance crisis that crosses the country in 2021.
