Resumen

Los Ácidos Grasos Polinsaturados de Cadena Larga (LCPUFA) son sustancias esenciales durante el periodo de crecimiento cerebral, además de tener potenciales efectos en la prevención de enfermedades crónicas, alérgicas y en la modulación del sistema inmune. La dieta materna, la predisposición genética y la variabilidad geográfica influyen en los niveles transferidos de estas sustancias a los hijos durante la gestación y la lactancia. Hasta el momento, para el neurodesarrollo de los niños, la suplementación de estos ácidos grasos tiene una evidencia disponible controversial. Por lo tanto, a partir de la revisión sistemática llevada a cabo por uno de los autores en 2010, este artículo revisa la evidencia actual sobre el tema.
