Caracterización física, térmica y morfológica de fibras de coco de la Costa Pacífica del Cauca con potencial como refuerzo de materiales compuestos de matriz polimérica
Resumen
La generación masiva de residuos vegetales constituye actualmente un impacto negativo medioambiental y social. Una de las estrategias desarrolladas para mitigarlo consiste en la incorporación de fibras vegetales como refuerzo en materiales compuestos de matriz polimérica para mejorar sus propiedades mecánicas. En este contexto, se evaluaron tres variedades de fibras de coco de la Costa Pacífica del Cauca, con el objetivo de estudiar su viabilidad como matriz de refuerzo en materiales compuestos. Mediante diversos análisis se determinaron las propiedades físicas, térmicas y morfológicas de las fibras de coco. Se encontró que los valores más altos en resistencia máxima a la tensión, módulo de elasticidad y elongación máxima en el punto de rotura fueron de 302,678 MPa, 5,820 y 28,187% respectivamente. En espectroscopia se observaron picos entre 3340 cm−1 - 897 cm-1 que indican la presencia de celulosa, lignina, ceras y hemicelulosa. La adsorción de agua para los 3 tratamientos estuvo entre el 98 - 104%, sin diferencias significativas. En estudio termogravimétrico se detectaron dos etapas de degradación, una inicial con picos máximos para las tres variedades entre 44,47°C (A1), 50,62°C (A2) y 39,50°C (A3), en un intervalo de 24 a 125 °C, luego el segundo pico se ubicó entre 190 °C a 390 °C, en este intervalo hubo una pérdida de peso de aproximadamente el 20%. La relación de aspecto de las tres variedades entre los tamices 40 y 60, fue mayor a 10, lo que indica que la fibra es apta para ser usada como material de refuerzo en materiales compuestos. En conclusión, las tres variedades de fibra presentaron excelentes propiedades y cumplieron con las condiciones de estabilidad térmica y resistencia mecánica que las hace aptas para implementarlas como matriz de refuerzo en la fabricación de materiales compuestos.
